VIDEO WINDOW shows six works of Swiss artist Doris Schmid. They comprise films from the beginnings of her engagement with video until today, among it one of her main works: Es gibt kein Geheimnis (There is no Secret, 2014). Her works are characterized by a spatial-installative setting, a proximity to experimental film as well as collaborations with musicians and actresses. They reflect on perception, construction, deconstruction and dreamlike transformation of reality be it in the form of immediate experience or in staged image spaces. The videos are based on a associative, non-linear narration, distortion and poetic composition with an equal treatment of image and sound. Memory, identity, body, urban space, travel, landscape and nature are recurring motives.
Since 2012, Doris Schmid lives and works in Berlin, previously she spent ten years in Vienna. She studied in Basel and Zurich. After a short period of painting, she now works with photography, video, audio and performance. She presents her works at home and abroad, in screenings and festivals, concerts, music videos and experimental radio plays. She received numerous awards and residencies. 2017 an extensive artist book was published.
